Artist Statement
Artist StatementFor me each canvas is a window of expression and my joy is to share this with others.
I rely on my intuition to guide me and working abstractly allows the power of the unconscious to emerge. Abstract work is a process of many choices, both internal and external. Utilizing its’ own unique visual language, different parts of the painting eventually integrate into a whole that makes sense and becomes meaningful to the viewer. I experience myself as if I was on an archeological dig where archetypal symbols can flow and re-create the myths we live by.

The title of my new collection is “Regeneration”, which in Latin means (re) again and (generae) create. Concerned with environmental issues I have been keenly aware of the magnificent, generative force of nature. I also realized the compassionate force behind this creativity in a profound way.
Focusing on my work I found a beautiful atlas that inspired several paintings for this collection. For example, the painting ”Regeneration” began as a reference to a map. It transformed into a red sea of primal possibilities regenerating life in spite of a sky representing the shadow of pollution. I worked on several paintings at once experimenting with media. I often painted with acrylic as a first layer to achieve interesting surface and texture. I then used oil paint to bring out each color with a rich luster. I find the use of color quite fascinating for each color expresses a feeling tone. I also enjoy the process of printing monotypes and collographs. For me, printmaking is often spontaneous, experimental and playful.
This collection of paintings and prints connected me to a source of renewal and hope for the possibility of healing our Earth.
